Drink of choice for the evening: Crown with a splash of Coke

I will refrain from any insight concerning the opening acts.  I did not feel that their performances were relevant to speak about, not particularly enjoyable. Bar-keep, another please.

Prophet bar: Suggestive row house, narrow, brick building, bar area in the back, stage the size of a large cubicle, awesome original wood floors (freelance architect here).  My first gripe about the venue, open to all ages.  Given the sizable bar and band name it threw me for a loop seeing 15 year olds.  My apologies kiddos.

Now onto the positive.  I did catch myself staring at a cute little starlet that was sending out the vibes propped against the brick wall.  Trust me she was sending them out.  You don’t lean against a brick wall like she was and vibes not head my way from across the room.  She successfully wore a tight, short black dress accompanied with a gold sparkly jacket (I came clean; those who were with me know I was scoping her out and I swear that she was at least 20.  If she reads this, email me ha).

Starfucker began with easily my favorite song of theirs Biggie Smalls.  The sound is perfectly reminiscent of the music video: Lana Del Rey-esque woman dancing in a 1970’s Star Trek environment.  She is joined by two other characters in equally old space outfits grooving with disco dance moves.  I was impressed at the start and might have reenacted one of those dance moves.  Vibes from that young female were still headed my way, not sure if those moves ruined our future…

The Starfucker love for an overwhelming electronic feel is probably best demonstrated in Bury us Alive.  To achieve this they have mashed electronics, the piano, guitar, drums, ultra mellow vocals and a tad more electronics.  I am not as appreciative of their infusion of rap into their music, only downfall of the show and thankfully it does not occur often.

When I hear Death as a Fetish live, I think of Biggie Smalls, and this is indeed a good thing.  Follow this up with German Love, some chill blue mood lighting and another alcoholic drink, and the night is really starting to look up.  Where the hell did my gold jacket girl go?

Julius, I have really grown to like.  I delight in the lyrics and how they seamlessly weave into the music.  It was played somewhere near the end of the set list and was a really amazing sound live.  I believe that if the vocals were a little clearer and louder, more recognizable, that this is the type of song that could surge this group forward.

A staple if you know of Starfucker, Millions was played at the end of the show.  It is impossible not to dance to this tune, I dare you.  Play this song as you read this, anytime the lyrics cease, I begin to rock out and chair dance.  You are most likely doing the same.  The electronics overtake the track the rest of the way, easily my favorite part.  Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second initiated the encore followed by Girls Just Want to Have Fun.  A solid song of theirs followed by their signature cover that they perform really well.
